One of the UK’s leading frozen food distributors, Central Foods, has joined LACA, the professional body representing catering managers who provide school meals within the UK.
The company has become an Associate member of the organisation, which was established in 1990 and includes public and private sector providers, client officers, dietitians and individual schools.
Gordon Lauder, MD of Central Foods, said: “Central Foods is a key supplier of frozen food products to schools and the education sector in general, providing a wide range of pre-prepared sweet and savoury items.
“We are excited to have joined LACA and look forward to forging new links and strengthening our existing ties with other organisations and individuals who are involved in the important role of providing school meals in the UK.”
LACA is the leading professional body representing 550 catering managers in local authorities, private contractors and individual schools and academies, within both the primary and secondary sectors in England, Wales and Scotland.
With over 300 local authorities, county, district councils and London Boroughs represented in the membership, 80% of the catering service in schools is provided by LACA members. And with around three million lunches being served every day in 27,000 schools, the LACA network is the country’s largest provider of school catering.
Northamptonshire-based Central Foods is one of the UK’s main frozen food distributors, supplying hundreds of different lines into foodservice, ranging from vegetarian and free-from items, meat products, bakery items and canapés through to buffet products, desserts and puddings. It currently sells to more than 240 independent wholesalers, as well as larger national and regional wholesalers, and foodservice caterers across the entire foodservice industry including schools, colleges and universities.
