WARWICKSHIRE PUPILS GIVE BIRDS THE SPECIAL ‘TWEETMENT’ WITH HOMEBUILDER’S HELP FOR NATIONAL NESTBOX WEEK

To encourage more wildlife into Warwickshire gardens Barratt Homes teamed up with Heathcote Primary School in Warwick and donated nest boxes to the school, as well as launching a digital bird quiz for pupils to take part in.

The donation tied in with National Nest Box Week (14th to 21st February), which encouraged UK residents to help create more homes for native birds and the leading developer has launched a digital bird quiz to encourage people to learn more about where their feathered friends live.

Created by Barratt Homes, the quiz features swifts, starlings, blue tits, robins, house martins, house sparrows and tawny owls; all of which match a distinctive nest box to encourage pupils to think about how different species require particular homes. This is available at: https://birdhousequiz.co.uk/.

Heathcote Primary School also received a donation of two nest boxes from Barratt Homes for the pupils to welcome birds to their shared environment and to learn more about their feathered friends.

Gill Humphriss, Executive Principal at Heathcote Primary School, said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the different birds and their unique habitats.

“Sincere thanks to Barratt Homes for providing the nest boxes which will hopefully attract more birds to our school grounds during the colder months of the year."

The activity for National Nest Box Week is part of the homebuilder’s efforts to create homes for wildlife as well as people, strengthened by its ongoing partnership with the RSPB.

Working with local school pupils, the awareness week showcased how homes are tailored to a variety of birds, in the same way that Barratt Homes matches a range of different homebuyers to its own properties.

Heathcote Primary School is located close to Barratt Homes’ Warwick Gates development.

Tanya Silk, Sales Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “It was fantastic to work with Heathcote Primary School for National Nest Box Week and it sounds as though the pupils had an excellent time taking part in a range of bird-themed activities.

“As the UK’s largest housebuilder, we strive to create new homes for wildlife as well as people and we hope the donation of nest boxes for the school will help the pupils welcome some new neighbours to their environment.”
