DWEM - Harry Wells taking part in a Q&A with some of David Wilson Homes' residents in Kibworth and its employees-090c2ff1

To help promote positive physical and mental health, David Wilson Homes invited a member of the Leicester Tigers’ squad to lead a virtual fitness class for its Leicestershire residents.

Harry Wells (27) took charge of the introductory fitness session on Zoom to provide an insight into keeping fit at home for the community at David Wilson Homes’ Kibworth development, in addition to the Coalville-based housebuilder’s employees.

The Tigers academy graduate drilled the attendees on a 20-minute circuit with a range of exercises including squats, squat jumps and burpees before sitting in on a Q&A to discuss all things fitness, his own training programme and his rugby career.

Harry said: “Staying fit and active is essential for not only physical fitness but also mental health. It was great to meet online, but hopefully it won't be too long until we can do something like this in person.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the focus on using exercise to boost mental health has been of utmost importance and people have been looking for new ways to keep fit at home during each lockdown.

According to the Mental Health Foundation, even a short burst of 10 minutes’ brisk walking increases our mental alertness, energy and positive mood, whilst participation in regular physical activity can increase our self-esteem and can reduce stress and anxiety.

Statista reported that there are close to 8.9 million people in England who take part in fitness activities for at least 150 minutes per week.

Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We wanted to provide an opportunity for residents at our Kibworth development to learn how to stay active at home and we were thrilled to work with Harry on this virtual fitness class.

“The mental health benefits of exercise are of huge significance, especially during the lockdown period, and the insight from Harry to support our customers and employees was greatly appreciated.”

Originally from Peterborough, Harry Wells was part of Leicester Tigers’ academy and made his professional debut in the 2012/13 season. As a senior squad member, he’s played for the club since 2016 and his total of 29 appearances during 2018/19 was the highest by any member of the first team.

The virtual fitness class with David Wilson Homes was enjoyed by all ages, including some of the younger residents, and will encourage the attendees to maintain an exercise routine as the lockdown restrictions ease.

For anyone looking to become part of the Kibworth community, there is currently a range of four bedroom homes available at the Fleckney Road development.
