LEDBURY PUPIL HAS A “TALE” OF A TIME FOLLOWING POETRY COMEPTITION WIN

A creative pupil from Ledbury Primary School has had her words heard following a poetry competition with leading developer David Wilson Homes.

The five star homebuilder ran a competition with the school to celebrate creative writing and pay homage to the fact its St Catherine’s Grange development is named after William Wordsworth’s sonnet ‘St. Catherine of Ledbury’.

David Wilson Homes asked pupils from the school’s year five class to create a poem with the theme of ‘Ledbury’ and ‘home’ in mind, to honour the launch of the development’s new show homes.

The three best entries were chosen and have received Argos vouchers to celebrate their winning poems, with the first prize winner having their poem framed and displayed at the development’s show home. Since winning the competition, Elsie, 11, has been to visit her poem in pride of place in the property’s study.

The poem was handwritten by local Calligrapher, Christine Oxley, to give it an authentic feel and ensure it’s in-keeping with the rest of the show home’s artwork.

Steve Barton, Senior Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes Mercia, added: “As a leading developer, it’s important we acknowledge the heritage and history of the areas in which we build, which is why we are thrilled to have had young Ledbury natives involved in our poetry competition at St Catherine’s Grange.

“All entries were of an excellent quality, and we are delighted to be able to recognise these future poets by donating prizes and having Elsie’s poem displayed at the development for the time we are onsite.”

Elsie, first place winner of the competition, said: “I am so excited to have won this competition as I love writing and it’s been so great to see my poem on display!”

Julie Rees, Headteacher at Ledbury Primary School, said: “We were delighted to be involved in this poetry competition run by David Wilson Homes.

“Our pupils love listening to and writing poetry, especially when it is focused on our beautiful town of Ledbury.

“We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for their generous prizes; the children were delighted to be rewarded for their thoughtful prose.”

St Catherine’s Grange is a new community of two, three and four bedroom homes located on Kipling Road.
