Bellway East Midlands welcomes new Sales Director

A new sales director has been appointed by Leicestershire-based housebuilder Bellway East Midlands.

Rachel Fay, joins Bellway with over 30 years of experience in sales and marketing within the sector under her belt.

Rachel, who lives near Solihull, is relishing the challenge of working for one of the country’s biggest national housebuilders.

And the married mother of two says the biggest change she has witnessed during her three decades in the industry is the drive towards greater gender equality.

Rachel said: “When I started working for a housebuilder in the 1990s, all the senior team were men, including all board members and all directors. Now, the diversity we see within the construction sector is fantastic, and I am certainly witnessing that first hand at Bellway. The majority of sales directors are women, and we also have senior female technical staff, site managers, and quantity surveyors within the company.

“Even when I became a sales director in 2004, it felt as though I was breaking ground in the industry. Housebuilding has come a long way in the past five to 10 years and there’s still more to come, but we’ve absolutely taken steps in the right direction when it comes to gender equality.”

A sales director for the past 17 years, Rachel was an admirer of Bellway long before she began working for the company.

She said: “It wasn’t just the product or the five-star status Bellway is renowned for which caught my attention, but the ethos within the company to look after its staff and put its customers at the forefront of everything it does.

“Bellway has a reputation within the industry for having a good culture and I’m learning that for myself now. Being in a role where you’re happy and passionate about your work is perhaps of more importance now, following the pandemic, than ever before.

“I wanted to join a business which was dynamic and growing, and even with 70-plus years of experience Bellway continues to achieve that. You can tell that by how many of its employees have stayed with the company for a long time, remaining hungry and motivated.

“Bellway has a team of highly skilled, highly talented staff across the board. There’s a clear scope, passion and drive to create the best customer experience possible and that is exciting to me. Bellway sees the world through the eyes of its customers, and you can see that in the level of detail which goes into every floor plan, every house, on every development.”

Although the pandemic has presented a major challenge to housebuilders, Rachel believes the way in which the industry has adapted its working practices during the crisis will prove beneficial in the long term.

She said: “One positive we can take from the changes we’ve had to make in our industry is with appointments being mandatory for customers. Not only does it keep everyone safe, it actually enhances the customer’s experience and the quality of the service they receive from our sales teams. I certainly hope that’s going to remain in place for a long time to come.”

Outside of work, Rachel and her husband of 30 years enjoy spending time with their two daughters and their grumble of six pugs. Rachel is also a keen canvas artist, painting acrylic and watercolour designs, and enjoys reading books, holidaying abroad – when possible – and going to the theatre.

Bellway East Midlands, whose head office is located at Meridian Business Park in Leicester, is currently building new homes across Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire.
