CHESHIRE DEVELOPER CELEBRATES THE FINTASTIC NORTHERN DINNER WORTH FORKING OUT FOR

Barratt Homes’ employees in Cheshire have revealed what they love about the epitome of British culture in light of this year’s National Fish & Chips Day (4th June).

The developer surveyed employees across the county to find out what makes for a chippie tea, and the results were off the scales with 75% of respondents opting for the classic delicacy of fish and chips when ordering their dinner.

But the perfect takeaway doesn’t stop there, as scampi and sausages were popular additions. 66% of respondents decided that their dinner wouldn’t be complete without a drop or two of curry sauce, while mushy peas pinched second ‘plaice’.

With Barratt building homes throughout the county, the developer wanted to find out from those that put the homes together what their takeaway of choice would be when moving house, with 50% of respondents choosing fish and chips.

Respondents were also asked when they would recommend that residents sit down and enjoy a chippie tea, and the majority recommend that residents enjoy a chippie tea on the first night in their new home.

Also included in the survey were questions such as “what’s the maximum amount of time that you’d queue for food on a Friday night?” to separate the weak from the hungry. The figures revealed that:

  • 75% of respondents would wait roughly 10 to 15 minutes for food, while some said that they wouldn’t even bother if there was a queue
  • Respondents felt that the best thing about a chippie tea was the smell, as well as it reminding them of when they were a child, while others loved not having to cook such a “great northern dinner”
  • 66% of respondents noted that the best fish and chip shop name they had seen, or could come up with, would be The Codfather
  • Another popular name was New Cod on the Block

Michaela Lancaster, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “The last 12 months have been understandably uncertain for many, so we wanted to have some fun with members of the team and find out what they love most about a great northern dinner and what takeaway advice they would give to our residents.

“We know that moving home is an ideal time for residents to scout out their local fish and chip shop or other takeaway, so why not ask our builders what they would recommend for a first night treat?

“There are many key workers that have worked bravely throughout the pandemic, so on National Fish and Chips day we want to celebrate those that have kept the public fed, and remind them that they are flipping brilliant.”

National Fish & Chips day is celebrating its sixth birthday in 2021, and is organised by the National Edible Oil Distributor’s Association. Launching in 2015, the day was created to highlight the industry that is at the centre of every community, particularly those that have worked throughout the pandemic and possibly even sacrificed their business by closing to aid in keeping the nation safe.

Barratt Homes is currently building properties at the following sites in Cheshire: J One Seven in Sandbach, Silk Waters Green in Macclesfield, Dane View and Imperial Park in Northwich, and Orchard Meadows in Appleton.
