The team at a logistics facility in Corby, which was completed at the height of Covid-19, are celebrating its first birthday.
Specialist 3pl logistics provider, Europa Warehouse is commemorating the anniversary of its 750,000 sq ft 3pl warehouse on Midlands Logistics Park in Corby - Europa’s largest and most high-tech facility in the UK.
Europa Worldwide Group has six divisions – Europa Road, Europa Air & Sea, Europa Showfreight, Europa Warehouse, Europa Contact Centre and Continental Cargo Carriers, and has featured in The Sunday Times Top Track 250 for two years running and Top Track 100 this year.
In addition to Corby, the business has two sites across the East Midlands in Nottingham and near Worksop.
Relying on mainly remote and video interview the company also successfully recruited over 250 new people to work at the £60m Europa Warehouse, which is a division of Europa Worldwide Group.
New staff across a range of roles, from Operatives to Forklift Drivers and Shift Managers, joined and were trained to work at the site which is mainly used by e-commerce and blue-chip online retailers.
Europa completed the facility in June 2020, opening on time as planned, despite the challenges of Covid-19. Maria Torrent March, Europa Warehouse’s Logistics Director explains why this was such a huge achievement for the team: “Opening the Corby site during the pandemic presented a number of challenges – not only did we have to follow all of the new regulations, social distancing, wearing PPE etc, we were having to continually reconfigure the design to accommodate our customers’ significant growth. It is absolutely amazing that we managed to open on time and all our team have been fantastic.”
The ground floor of the Corby warehouse alone is equivalent to seven premier league football pitches with 715,000 sq ft dedicated to logistics and 100,000 pallet spaces.
Maria continues: “It’s hard to believe it has been one year already – I am incredibly proud. Everyone has worked tirelessly and now we are seeing the results. Business is thriving and our customers are benefiting from our increased space and improved efficiencies. We have already achieved so much and have many more exciting innovations to announce soon.”
Constructed to a high-quality specification, the site includes above market standard 18 metre heights to facilitate three floors of mezzanines. To maximise the height of the building, racking has been built to nine levels and utilises the very latest very narrow aisle technology.
