Satellite Applications Catapult establishes Leicester base

A government-backed technology and innovation company has further demonstrated its commitment to supporting and accelerating the growth of the space industry in the UK with its expansion into Space Park Leicester.

The Satellite Applications Catapult is one of nine Catapults established in 2013 to transform the UK’s capability for innovation in specific areas to help drive future economic growth.

The new office will be a home for activities designed to support and grow the space industry in the region.

Staffed by a team of experts, who will engage locally with academia, entrepreneurs and businesses alike, the team will manage a wide range of space industry activities with a strong focus on the commercialisation of ideas that use Earth Observation data and technology.

Stuart Martin, CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult, said: “We are extremely excited by the announcement today, marking the start of the Catapult’s presence at Space Park Leicester.

“It provides another opportunity for businesses to benefit from the unique services the Catapult provides, and with the focus on Earth Observation data, ties in closely with much of the world-leading expertise at the University of Leicester.
