Housing developer helps townsfolk enjoy all the fun of the fayre

People in Harborough were able to enjoy all the fun of the fayre thanks to a free bus service funded by a housing developer.

Many families and older people hopped on board the shuttle service, funded by a £700 donation by Davidsons Homes, which ferried them to the Market Harborough Summer Fayre.

The popular annual event at Market Harborough Showground in Gallow Field Road on the outskirts of town was attended by thousands on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August.

The weekend-long event went well with people being entertained by live music, a dog show, an arts and crafts fayre, food stalls and a host of fun competitions.

Davidsons Homes, which is building new homes at Lubenham View, off Lubenham Hill, and Wellington Place, off Leicester Road, held a stall at the event and organised a colouring competition. Entrants are invited to drop off their entries to the marketing suite at either development, with prizes including a trip to Alton Towers, vouchers and a sweet hamper. The closing date for entries is 15th August 2021.

Juliette Maher, Director of Harborough Fayres CIC, said: “We are really grateful to Davidsons Homes for sponsoring the shuttle bus, which went a long way in helping people to come down and enjoy our summer fayre.

“As the showground is not within easy walking distance of the town centre, many people – such as elderly people and families with young children – would struggle to get to the event, so to be able to provide this free service was great.

“The show was a great success. We saw lots of friendly faces who joined us for a weekend of fun and many of them would have not been able to be there if it had not been for the free ride.

“Sponsorships like this also mean a lot to us because we are a non-profit organisation, meaning we rely on the generosity of companies like Davidsons Homes.”

The money from the developer allowed the organisers of the fayre to provide three shuttle buses which left at 11am, midday and 1pm and returned at 1.30pm, 3.30pm, and 4.30pm on both days.

The buses picked up at the front of the indoor market on Northampton Road and dropped off at the showground.

Simon Tyler, Sales Director for Davidsons Homes South Midlands, said: “Everyone has had a tough time over the past year and more due to the pandemic so this kind of public event is very important to people.

“Our funding for the shuttle bus service meant that people who might have struggled to get to the fayre, because it was on the showground outside the town centre and they did not have their own transport, could join in the fun.

“The fayre was tremendous success and it is gratifying for us to be able to help out and be small part of that. Davidsons Homes feels part of the local community in Market Harborough and getting involved like this is the perfect way to show that.”

The Davidsons Homes developments are part of a wider masterplan for the growth of Market Harborough which is set to deliver up to 1,500 new homes on land west of Leicester Road.

There’s currently a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses available to reserve with Davidsons Homes at Lubenham View and Wellington Place. Prices start from £269,995 at Lubenham View and £349,995 at Wellington Place.
