Bolt - the UK’s second largest ride-hailing app with 3.5m riders registered - is finally launching in Nottingham and Sheffield as part of the next piece of its national expansion puzzle.
The launch will see the fastest growing mobility platform in the world support the Sherwood Forest Trust on its mission to champion the preservation, conservation, learning, enjoyment and responsible tourism of the Sherwood Forest area.
As part of the partnership and to mark its arrival in the area, Bolt will help the Trust to plant a tree on various sites across Sherwood Forest for every ride taken in the two cities within the first month of operating. The tree planting will take place from October onwards, with the company facilitating tree planting days in the local community.
Founded in 2013 with the mission to reduce individual dependence on personal cars and ultimately increase the availability of low-emission modes of transport in cities across the globe, Bolt is now the fastest growing mobility platform in the world with 75 million customers in 45 countries across Europe and Africa, and valued at more than €4bn. The company has a long-term commitment to reducing the ecological footprint of the company, and spreading the message that there’s a better way to move around than a private car.
To celebrate its arrival in the city, riders will have the chance to receive up to £8 off their first Bolt ride by entering the following code into the Promotions section of the Bolt App: ROBINHOOD* when they launch.
Bolt hopes that its launch will provide residents a safe, affordable, and sustainable way to get about two of the UK’s most bustling student cities and, with recent research commissioned by Bolt revealing that the average UK night out begins at 7pm and ends at 2AM, Bolt’s arrival is perfectly timed to enter the scene.
Sam Raciti, Bolt’s UK General Manager said: “We’re so excited to launch in two of the UK’s most exciting cities, and commit to working with the Sherwood Forest Trust to mark our arrival and help the organisation preserve the incredible woodlands of the area. We’ve committed to planting a tree for every ride taken during our launch period, as well as support several community tree planting days. A partnership with the Sherwood Forest Trust is a perfect fit as we aim to give money back to the people and trees back to Sherwood Forest, via our affordable service.
Raciti continues “Our recent launches in Birmingham and Leicester have shown a big surge in demand as the rest of lockdown restrictions are eased, and people are out and about so we’re expecting a similar reception as we launch our service in these two cities. Our mission is all about connecting people to places and moments in real life and we can’t wait to get people moving around the city again so they can enjoy everything that Nottingham and Sheffield have to offer”.
Dr Patrick Candler, Chief Executive, Sherwood Forest Trust comments “In this, the 25th year of our charity, we had always planned a major tree planting programme. The timing is so right to be working with an innovative young company like Bolt to help make our ambitions come true”.
