Housing association launches campaign to inform retirees in Banbury about purchasing with Shared Ownership

Housing association Bromford is set to launch its ‘Did you know?’ campaign, which aims to inform local homebuyers about the benefits of Shared Ownership.

As part of the campaign – which will run from Monday, September 20 through to Sunday, September 26 – Bromford will be sharing day-to-day advice and tips about the Shared Ownership scheme across its social media pages, and will host a free informative event in Banbury for older house-hunters.

The event, which will take place on Friday September 24, at Bromford’s Park Gardens off Bath Road, will enable older homebuyers to find out more about securing a retirement apartment using the Government’s Older People’s Shared Ownership (OPSO) scheme, for ages 55 and over.

The Park Gardens sales team will be on hand throughout the event to offer information and advice to prospective buyers about the scheme. House-hunters must contact the sales team to book an appointment prior to the event in line with Covid-19 safety regulations.

At Park Gardens, Bromford is selling a selection of two-bedroom Shared Ownership Woodgreen-style apartments, starting from £162,750 along with two-bedroom open market sale Easington apartments, priced from £283,000.

Sales Manager at Bromford, Claire Richardson, said: “At Bromford, we aim to help house-hunters and the local community however we can, and that’s why we are delighted to be launching a campaign to help inform Banbury homebuyers about this extremely beneficial scheme.

“A few benefits of the Shared Ownership scheme include more accessible mortgages, flexibility in investing more in your home down the line, and ownership offering long-term stability – and that’s just scratching the surface!

“During our Older Persons Shared Ownership event, visitors will be able to see the high-quality collection of homes available at Park Gardens, along with its excellent location – less than a mile away from the thriving town centre, with a fantastic range of shops, pubs and restaurants nearby.

“We hope that by highlighting the benefits of Shared Ownership, our campaign will help even more people to achieve their aspiration of moving on or up the property ladder.”

Shared Ownership gives first time buyers and those who do not currently own a property the opportunity to secure a newbuild home with Bromford. Homebuyers pay a mortgage on the share they own, and pay rent on the remaining share, meaning only a smaller deposit is required. Purchasers can increase their share during their time in the property.

For house-hunters aged 55 and over, the Older People’s Shared Ownership scheme works in the same way as the general Shared Ownership scheme, but you can only buy up to 75 per cent of your home. Once you own 75 per cent, you won’t have to pay rent on the remaining share.
