Rolls-Royce Leisure rebrands as Derby Leisure and Events Venue

One of Derby’s oldest and most popular leisure clubs has changed its name to better reflect the services and facilities it offers the Derby community.

For almost 100 years, Rolls-Royce Leisure on Moor Lane in Derby has provided a range of social, leisure and sporting facilities to Rolls-Royce employees and the wider Derby community.

During that time, the business, which occupies a 30-acre site on Moor Lane, just outside the city centre, has had a number of names, including Rolls-Royce Leisure and Rolls-Royce Welfare.

Historically, as the leisure complex is based on land owned by Rolls-Royce PLC, many of its customers have been Rolls-Royce employees. It has always been a separate business to Rolls-Royce, however, its services and facilities have always been open to the whole community.

The enforced closure of the complex due to the pandemic provided the management team with the opportunity to review the operation, resulting in the decision to carry out a complete rebrand.

The new name, Derby Leisure and Events Venue, will enable the business to better promote its facilities to the wider Derby community.

The complex offers a unique combination of social, sporting and hospitality facilities. This includes dining at The Pavilion restaurant and the popular Charlie’s, which serves a variety of homecooked dishes.

It boasts three wedding and function suites, seating up to 170 guests, with a bar and a dancefloor, surrounded by beautifully maintained fields and enclosed gardens, along with seven conference rooms, fully equipped for meetings, conferences, training days and seminars.

It also offers a varied programme of entertainment, with monthly Soul & Motown nights, 80’s nights and appearances and acts ranging from the hugely popular Si Cranstoun to The Firebirds, one of Europe’s top Rock ’n’ Roll bands. The Club also more than 30 arts and sports clubs.

DLEV also has its own state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, along with a whole host of other indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, including tennis courts, 5-a-side football, and rugby pitches, which are all available to members and non-members.

This rebranding of Rolls-Royce Leisure follows the renaming of Rolls-Royce Leisure Hucknall which was carried out in May 2021 and is now operating under the name of The Engine Rooms to reflect the site’s past.

Speaking about the decision to rebrand to Derby Leisure and Events Venue, general manager Colin Bancroft said:

“We’ve been working alongside Rolls-Royce PLC for almost 100 years but when the pandemic hit, it prompted us to re-evaluate our current offering and determine how we can reach a wider community outside the Rolls-Royce brand.

"Our new name, Derby Leisure and Events Venue, better reflects our role as a provider of

social, sports and leisure facilities to the whole community. Nothing else has changed and membership to our fitness centre remains unaffected.

“We will continue to operate with the same values that have been in place for nearly a century. Now we are hopefully seeing the end of all Covid restrictions, we are looking to reintroduce all our normal services, with some exciting new developments planned for later this year.

“I’d like to thank all our customers and members for their continued support over the years and look forward to welcoming them to Derby Leisure and Events Venue.”
