New Toyota Sales up 78% in 2022 as Corolla named in Top 10 Most Popular Cars in the UK
Latest figures show the sales of new Toyota models shot up by an astonishing 78% in the UK last month vs January 2021.
Brits snapped up over 8,000 new Toyota models in January ‘22 vs just over 4,500 in a pandemic-ravaged January ‘21 as Toyota’s market share grew from 5% to over 8%, according to latest data from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)
This is a transaction increase of 78%, much higher than the total new car market increase of just 28% and it means that Toyota is the 5th most popular brand in the UK this year.
This isn’t the only success of note for Toyota last month, in terms of individual models, the Toyota Corolla was the 10th most popular beating several established brands.
This would have only been helped by the glowing reviews of the 2021 hybrid version of which the style, reliability and ease of driving has ever increased the reputation of Toyota’s most popular ever model.
Ron Brooks Motor Group is a family run business with over 60+ years of experience supplying Toyota cars to the East Midlands and they also have a Suzuki dealership, another brand celebrating a strong start to 2022.
Suzuki also saw their market share increase from 0.51 to 0.84 with a huge 111% transaction increase from Jan’ 2021 to 2022.
Despite not shifting as many units as Toyota, Suzuki saw bigger growth helped by the release of the 2021 Suzuki Vitara SUV, All new Suzuki Across as well as 2021 versions of the Swift & Ignis.

Tom Slack, Group Manager, Strategy & Innovation at Ron Brooks Group commented:
“Toyota had a fantastic 2021 in the UK as it surpassed both 100,000 sales and achieved a 6.1% market share. As one of Toyota's longest serving partners, this is a very proud moment for Ron Brooks. The performance was also delivered in a very challenging year with the on-going Global Crisis, it was also excellent to see the All New Yaris, the European Car of the Year winner, marking a top 10 spot in the UK best selling vehicles.
Our order bank is exceptionally strong at present for both the brands we represent, Toyota and Suzuki, as well as a number of exciting model launches; we therefore have high expectations for 2022. It is encouraging to see both brands performing well in the first month of the year.”
