Heanor residents asked for feedback on Market Place regeneration plans

Businesses and residents are being invited to “have their say” as proposals for the reshaping of Heanor Market Place are unveiled.

Amber Valley Borough Council is in the process of delivering a major regeneration of Heanor town centre after securing £8.59m in funding from the Government’s £675m Future High Streets Fund (FHSF).

The multi-million pound project aims to kickstart further investment in the area and make Heanor a better place to live, work, socialise and shop.

The three main strands of the project include the regeneration of the former Grade II listed Heanor Grammar School site, the redevelopment of Heanor Market Place and the building of new affordable homes to create a town centre that will benefit the community and encourage investment.

Two sets of Market Place design proposals are to be unveiled this month, and the public are invited to provide their views. This feedback will help the council’s FHSF programme board to appoint the designer, who will undertake further engagement through the summer before generating the full designs.

The public can attend St Lawrence’s Church, in Church Street, from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday March 24, or Wilmot Street Centre between 10am and 1pm on Saturday March 26 to give their views on the initial Market Place proposals.

Alternatively, people can view the ideas online from March 24 to April 3 and provide feedback to the council.

Joanne Bamford, Amber Valley Borough Council’s growth & town centre manager, said: “This is the most exciting time for the development of the town of Heanor, as the Future High Street Fund will allow us to deliver transformation of the town, benefiting everyone who lives, works in and visits Heanor.

“By unveiling the draft proposals for the Market Place through this consultation period, the public will have a great opportunity to tell us what they like and what they would like to see happening as part of this regeneration.

“The council urges anyone with an interest in the future of Heanor to get involved and have their say.”

The goal of this strand of the project is to stimulate Heanor Market Place as the thriving and sustainable heart of the town, creating an attractive central space that encourages multiple uses for business and pleasure.

The two sets of draft proposals for the design element of Heanor Market Place will be available from March 24 to April 3 at www.ambervalley.gov.uk/shapeyourtown. For further information about the project email regeneration@ambervalley.gov.uk.
