First residents set to move into new development in Oadby

The first residents are set to move into a new housing development which is taking shape in Oadby.

Construction work is progressing well at Ashberry Homes’ Horwood Gardens, where the first properties are due to be completed in March.

Ashberry Homes, which is part of the Bellway Group, is building 89 new homes at the site off Gartree Road. The development will provide 71 homes for private sale and 18 properties as affordable housing for local people available through rent or shared ownership.

The development is part of a wider 310-home project that Ashberry Homes is working on jointly with Bellway.

Shirley MacLeod, Sales Manager for Ashberry Homes, said: “Being able to welcome the first residents to Horwood Gardens will mark a significant milestone in the construction of this development.

“Building work is progressing well at the site and we are sure that once people start to move into their homes here, a brand-new community will form and go from strength to strength as more and more residents join them.”

Horwood Gardens has been named in honour of the first curator of the University of Leicester Botanic Garden, Arthur Horwood. The gardens were established in 1921 and were previously located in the grounds of what is now the University of Leicester, before moving to Oadby in 1947, where they have been situated ever since

Shirley said: “There has been an incredibly high level of interest in the homes we are building here at Horwood Gardens. There is a real need for new housing in Leicestershire and this development will go some way to help meet that need.

“From the outset, this development, which has mix of housing for sale – from two to five-bedroom properties – has been extremely popular with a wide range of potential buyers. We have had enquiries from first-time buyers, people looking to downsize from a larger property and growing families looking for more space.

“Horwood Gardens is especially attractive to families as it is just four miles from the city centre, has a choice of schools within easy reach and has a variety of parks and nature reserves as well as the wonderful Botanic Garden nearby.”

There’s currently a selection of three and four-bedroom homes available to reserve at Horwood Gardens, with prices starting from £375,000.
