SGB-23942 - The Queen made out of yarn to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee (L)-d7dcb3ae

Leading developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes has helped its residents at its Willow Grove development in Wixams by sponsoring a local community group to cover the local area with a Jubilee-themed yarn-bomb.

The leading housebuilder donated £200 worth of yarn to the newly establish Wixams Yarnbombers group, which has decorated the area around the Marketing Suite at the Southern Cross development to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The group have also created a display on one of the jetties at the lake near to the local Co-op to expand the knitted celebrations in the community.

Visually impressive, the displays feature a range of different references to The Queen’s 70 years of reign including bunting, which follows a purple and platinum colour code, as well as a knitted version of Her Majesty which even has a miniature corgi beside her.

“When we were asked if we could set up a new group, I wasn’t sure how many people would respond, but after a post on Facebook we had over 20 people sign up to the new group in the first evening!” said Leon Staszak, chair of the Wixams Community Group.

“We’re absolutely blown away by the amazing display the Wixams Yarnbombers have created for the community in only 7 weeks. There’s such a great vibe in the group and so much support and enthusiasm for new members, we can’t wait to see the next display!”

Alison Raine, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Northampton, said: “We hope that the display at Willow Grove will encourage residents and the local community to get into the spirit of the Jubilee to mark such an incredible milestone for The Queen.

“We are encouraging anyone who would like to view the amazing work Wixams Yarnbombing Group have done to come to Willow Grove and speak to the friendly team to find out more.”

Located in Wixams, Willow Grove is a new garden village on the outskirts of Bedford supported by a range of amenities including a supermarket, schools within walking distance on the development and recreational areas.
