Derby builder launches new housing sales division

A housing development currently underway in Ashbourne has signalled a move by Derby construction firm Hodgkinson Builders to launch its own home sales division.

After more than 30 years of building and contracting, the team behind Derby based Hodgkinson Builders has set up Hodgkinson Homes, to enable the firm to sell its own brand new homes on the open market.

Operations director Robert Hodgkinson has made the announcement to coincide with the start of construction on Rosarium Heights, a forthcoming 10-home development off Clifton Road, in Ashbourne.

Hodgkinson Builders, which is also involved in the construction of the new landmark apartment building on the site of the former Debenhams store in Derby’s Victoria Street, made its name in the development of mainly social housing projects as well as the construction of family homes for other property clients.

Those parts of the business will continue to thrive, and the launch of Hodgkinson Homes will add another dimension to the firm’s diverse offering.

Robert said: “We are passionate about housing and building dreams. This makes perfect business sense as we have all the resources - and the demand for housing is there, so why not?

“For many years, we’ve had the skill set, the labour and the enthusiasm to do this. It’s a natural progression to our core business that I’ve been keen to do for a while.

“This development in Ashbourne provides the ideal opportunity to launch Hodgkinson Homes.”

Robert said that one of the best things about the new sales division was the opportunities it would create in terms of apprenticeships and trade jobs.

Each new Hodgkinson Homes development will require new bricklaying apprentices, labourers, site managers and skilled construction workers.

“We will always be looking for local people first, and we’re always keen to get good people on board,” said Robert.

Hodgkinson Builders has vast experience in the property sales market with housing developments previously in Norfolk. Rosarium Heights is the first official project for Hodgkinson Homes in the Midlands.

Rosarium Heights, named after a cottage that was historically on the site, will consist of a collection of bespoke two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The homes will be named after nearby beauty spots – The Dovedale, The Carsington and The Wolfscote. First completions on the site are expected in the autumn.

New homes partner Kerri Bywater, of Bagshaws Residential, in Ashbourne, is working alongside Hodgkinson Homes to market the Rosarium Heights properties.

“It’s fantastic news,” said Kerri. “Hodgkinson Builders has long-established itself as a quality builder that is able to build in volume. I’m surprised they haven’t gone down this route much sooner.

“It’s wonderful to see a Derby company grow so successfully over the years. It’s also fitting that Robert chose to launch this new division with the development in Ashbourne, which was recently voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK.”
