M-EC Welcomes a trio of new apprentices

Leicestershire-based Technical development consultant has welcomed this year’s intake of apprentices following the successful re-launch of the apprenticeship scheme earlier this year, post-pandemic.

Dedicated to providing opportunities and supporting individuals in careers within the technical industry, this is the tenth year that M-EC has offered their apprenticeship scheme. This year saw positions available for eager and enthusiastic A-Level/college graduates within the civil engineering and geotechnical departments, which resulted in significant candidate applications.

This year, recruits; Michael Webb and Jack Wills have been inducted as Civil Engineering degree apprentices through Coventry university, enabling them to gain a higher qualification than a standard apprenticeship.

Tom Bradshaw joins us with A-Levels and with a passion for site work. He has been enrolled on a remote learning vocational course to develop his knowledge within construction, design and the built environment.

Michael Webb, Apprentice Civil Engineer for M-EC, Says:Since finishing my A-Levels, I knew I wanted to start an apprenticeship to gain work experience while also gaining a qualification. I first found out about M-EC’s opportunities through a careers event at my Sixth Form, it caught my eye because of how interesting it seemed, and it offered an excellent graduate qualification. I have joined the Civil Engineering team, and since my first interview, everyone has been very welcoming and helpful; I am now looking forward to growing my skills and knowledge with M-EC.”

The apprenticeship scheme is tailored to each candidate, ensuring the chosen qualification is relevant to the next stage of development and enhances the skills and knowledge of the individual.

Tom Bradshaw, Apprentice Geotechnical Technician for M-EC, says:

“Coming into the second month at M-EC, it’s been a steep learning curve; I am developing multiple skill sets from all the M-EC staff and gaining a great qualification through the apprenticeship whilst learning on the job from qualified professionals. So far, I have learnt how to do Soakaway Testing, Trial Pitting, Window Sampling and much more.”

Joanna Stevens, Head of People and Culture at M-EC, concludes: We are delighted to welcome the new apprentices to M-EC following the successful push of this year’s programme. 

Further and higher education isn’t for everyone, so our apprentice programme is designed to offer the opportunity to gain qualifications and create a long-term career within the development technical industry whilst learning on the job.

The new recruits have settled in well, spending the last month getting to know their chosen disciplines and bolstering their overall knowledge of M-EC before starting their chosen courses in Mid-September.”
