The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause and six colleagues from RateSetter – part of the Metro Bank family - recently raised over £300 for Hike with Mike Foundation in the Wolf Run held at Lutterworth.
Nottingham based Hike with Mike Foundation helps fund support for anyone with mental health issues. Hike with Mike Foundation run a series of organised hikes and events throughout the year. All funds raised go into a fund. Those needing help can then contact us, and within 48 hours we will typically agree funding for an initial six counselling or therapy sessions.
The Wolf Run is a tough obstacle race culminating in the mud sucker challenge and everyone had something to say about the event.
“Running with colleagues young enough to be my sons was hard enough, then adding the heat on top proved a very difficult challenge indeed,” said Head of Operations, Steve Collender. He added “Yet despite the mud, rivers, woods, crawling, running and climbing, towards the end was extremely satisfying to complete. Would I do it one more time? Never say never, as all the money raised will help support those with immediate mental health needs.”
First timers and Borrow Services Specialists, Hassan and Hejaz are already looking ahead to next year. Hassan Ali remarked: “For someone who went for the first time, it was an experience like no other. The emotions went from 0-100 in a matter of seconds but I felt like a new man when I went through the finish line. If only all the obstacles after every 1km were water slides, rather than the swampy mud lakes.” Hejaz Ghulami added; “I had an amazing time, will be looking forward to doing it again. It will be more fun getting even more colleagues signed up for next summer.”
The final word goes to Borrower Services Team Leader, Matt Gill: “This was my second wolf run, running the first one a few years ago for “fun”. This time it was great running for such a worthy cause that raises much needed funds and ploughs every penny back into helping people.”
