Atlantic Green announces mechanical completion of its first project, Buxton BESS (60MWh).

  • The Buxton BESS Project achieved mechanical completion on the 23rd of December 2023.
  • The BESS will have a 30MW Energy Capacity and 60 MWh Connection Distribution.
  • The Project will assist Derbyshire in tackling the climate crisis, helping to reduce carbon emissions across the county to net zero.

Atlantic Green, has achieved a notable milestone for its Buxton BESS Project, as it attained mechanical completion on December 23, 2023. With planning approval secured in April 2022, this project boasts an approximate 60 MWh capacity, ensuring sustained power output for up to two hours during peak energy demand periods. It remains firmly on track for energisation in Q1 2024.

This project, secured with a favourable 30-year lease, dedicates substantial space for landscaping and ecological enhancements, underscoring Atlantic Green’s commitment to promoting positive biodiversity outcomes. The BESS is poised to maximise the utilisation of renewable energy sources, reducing the UK’s dependence on expensive imported gas and fossil fuel power facilities. Additionally, it will bolster the electricity grid's capacity to align the generation of electricity with actual demand, making a substantial contribution to ensuring the UK's energy security.

The achievement of mechanical completion marks a milestone for Atlantic Green as it is the first of a series of projects encompassing over 1GWh currently in their development pipeline. Two significant projects in their development pipeline are Cellarhead BESS with an approximate capacity of 600MWh and Project T with an approximate capacity of 270 MWh.

Atlantic Green is a joint venture between two entrepreneurial shareholders,  Nofar Energy and Interland, who have provided invaluable support in a ground-breaking year of notable milestones. Atlantic Green were recently honoured with the titles of Newcomer and Challenge of the Year at the 2023 Energy Storage Awards. Atlantic Green is committed to the development of battery energy storage to enable the UK to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and increase the UK's power autonomy and energy security.

Nick Bradford, Managing Director of Atlantic Green, lauds the partnership, stating,

We are delighted to announce mechanical completion for our Buxton BESS Project. The Buxton BESS Project will contribute to improving grid stability and pave the way for a greener and more sustainable energy future. We take pride in contributing to Derbyshire's efforts in tackling climate challenges and supporting the UK in reaching its net-zero targets, ensuring energy security for the future.”
