Leicester heating installers recognised amongst best of the best at industry awards

Omar Taib from Hamilton, Leicester has been announced as the winner of the East Midlands Heating Installer Awards 2024

With more entries than ever before coming from the East Midlands competition was particularly high, leading to the judges awarding Glen Wakeling of Leicester’s HeatSpec a Highly Commended in recognition of the standard of his work.

Winner Omar specialises in the design and installation of heating systems in homes across Leicester and the East Midlands with his company Bms UK. His winning entry featured work he had completed for a customer with an inefficient heating system in a new build home. His solution included the fitting of components which delivered a substantial reduction in the system's energy consumption. As a result, through Omar’s recommendations and technical work, the homeowner has substantially decreased their energy bills.

Speaking of his win, Omar said: “I feel blessed to be recognised in this industry. I’m proud of the work I deliver for my customers and feel lucky I’m in an industry where I can really help people and see what a difference I’ve made to their lives. I’m very grateful to be celebrating this big achievement and I am looking forward to the celebrations over the coming months.”

The nationwide awards scheme, now in its ninth year, recognises the achievements and raises the credibility of plumbers and heating installers across the country who deliver excellent customer service on a daily basis. Representatives from the awards’ partners, CIPHE, The IPG, Polypipe Building Products, Refresh, Samsung Climate Solutions and Stelrad – as well as a team of previous winning installers - judged the entries on problem solving, product knowledge and stand out work.

As one of only three Highly Commended winners in the UK, Glen Wakeling will move forward to the national finals alongside Omar. Glen has now been recognised consecutively for the fifth year by the awards, which is a unique achievement.

Glen’s entry detailed his work installing an air source heat pump for a home renovation in Leicestershire, which alongside solar PV and other sustainable solutions now allows the homeowner to live as self-sufficiently as possible. The partnership with the homeowner, as well as Glen’s knowledge of sustainable heating solutions, ensured the project was a complete success.

Voting closes on 28th May. Public votes will contribute to a third of the installer’s overall scores, alongside the judges’ scores and the scores from a technical challenge set for all of the regional and highly commended winners.

The winners will be announced on 26th June at Installer Show in Birmingham NEC
