Hundreds object to plans for £1bn 'Salford Shard' skyscraper and regeneration plan at retail park

Plans to demolish Salford's Regent Retail Park for a billion-pound housing development including the tallest tower outside London have been met with objections from hundreds of people.

Henley Investment Management submitted a proposal in July to Salford City Council to replace the retail park with new flats and commercial space.

The ambitious £1bn plan includes the construction of over 3,000 apartments and a skyscraper exceeding 70 stories, which would be the tallest tower outside London if approved. However, local visitors argue that the loss of the retail park would be "a big loss" for Salford, with more than 260 individuals writing to the council to express their opposition.
