Plans to convert church given green light despite 165 objections and traffic concerns

Councillors have approved plans to convert a church in Timperley into a place of worship for the Ismaili Muslim community. The planning application for the current Woodlands United Reformed Church included a two-storey infill extension to the existing internal courtyard.

Despite 165 objections and opposition from Timperley Central ward Coun Julian Newgrosh, Trafford's planning committee has given the green light to the plan. The building will undergo an internal reconfiguration, with new rear and front entrances, blocked up windows, new windows, air conditioning, landscaping and alterations to the car park.

Coun Newgrosh voiced concerns about the 'weakness' of the plan, particularly regarding roads and parking around the building on Woodlands Parkway. "Woodlands Parkway is a winding and narrow road," he said.
