Huge £1bn Northern Gateway development next to M62 takes big step forward

A colossal employment scheme, estimated to be worth around £1bn to the local economy, is poised to take another significant stride towards becoming a reality. The Northern Gateway project, a key component of the broader Atom Valley development zone, is projected to create over 20,000 high-quality jobs and inject a £1bn economic boost into Rochdale and Bury.

Town hall chiefs from both boroughs will be asked to greenlight a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for this transformative project. The development, which encompasses 1.2m square metres of employment space, is situated on the border of Bury and Rochdale, near junction 19 of the M62.
