Historic Derby hotel set for revamp under new management

Derby venue, the Cathedral Quarter Hotel, has been given a new lease of life under the management of Lavendish Leisure, which took ownership in May.

The new team, led by experienced hotelier Isuru Akalanka, is revitalising the historic Grade II-listed hotel.

Akalanka, who relocated from Sri Lanka to oversee operations, has temporarily moved into the hotel to immerse himself in the daily rhythm and address needs firsthand.

He said: “I’m staying at the hotel right now because I need to be here to oversee everything. When I start running a new hotel, I like to move in for a while. It is what I do, and it works for me. In the beginning, the hotel was very quiet but there were quite a few things that needed
