Petplan's annual 2026 Dog Breed Report has recently landed. This comprehensive report is packed with insights, exclusive internal data and survey findings from 4,000 UK respondents – including 2,000 current dog owners and 2,000 prospective owners.
Key findings from the report:
- Petplan’s most popular puppy name is Teddy.
- Petplan’s most popular puppy breeds are German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniels and Miniature Dachshunds.
Top insights among East Midlands dog owners include:
- Top motivations for choosing their dog’s breed: 32% selected their dog’s breed based on their appearance, followed by their breed’s temperament (29%).
- Top concerns among East Midlands dog owners: Keeping their dog healthy and active (48%), followed by the cost of vet bills/pet insurance (44%).
- What East Midlands dog owners are most looking forward to in 2026: Exploring new walks with their dog (51%), followed by more cuddles and quality time at home (44%).
- Most popular breed: East Midlands owners say their favourite dog breeds are German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers (joint 7.69%).
