Brain injury charity Headway Nottingham has marked its 30th anniversary with a special garden party, bringing together service users, supporters, volunteers and members of the community to celebrate three decades of life-changing support.
The event was supported by Rothera Bray Solicitors, who worked closely with the charity to help plan and organise the celebrations, ensuring the milestone was marked in style.
Founded in 1996, Headway Nottingham is the only service in Nottinghamshire providing ongoing support to adults affected by brain injury for as long as they need it. Over the past 30 years, the charity has helped more than 2,000 people affected by brain injury rebuild confidence, regain independence and reconnect with their communities.
The charity welcomed guests on Saturday 12th September to commemorate the anniversary, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the strong sense of community at the heart of the organisation.
As a self-funded charity, Headway Nottingham operates a dedicated day centre that supports approximately 86 clients each week. Service users can take part in a wide range of activities, including creative writing, pottery, music and arts and crafts, while also relearning essential life skills such as budgeting, shopping and social interaction. Each year, the charity provides more than 5,000 workshop and activity places, helping individuals adapt to life after brain injury and achieve their personal goals.
Charlotte Leask, Chief Executive Officer of Headway Nottingham, said:
“Every 90 seconds, a person is admitted to hospital with a brain injury. We work closely with hospitals and rehabilitation units to provide ongoing support and help people adjust to their ‘new normal’ following injury.
“Reaching our 30th anniversary is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the resilience of our service users, the dedication of our team and the generosity of our supporters.”
Guests at the celebration enjoyed a performance from Rock Choir and listened to readings from members of Headway Nottingham’s creative writing group. Their powerful stories provided a moving reminder of the charity’s impact and the importance of continued support for people affected by brain injury.
The event was attended by several prominent figures from across Nottingham, including Alex Norris MP, Councillor Cheryl Barnard, Mayor of Nottingham, and Councillor Audrey Dinnall, Sheriff of Nottingham.
