A care home in Leicester is celebrating after achieving the highest score in a recent infection prevention and control inspection, with inspectors recognising the home’s consistently high standards and the team’s clear commitment to safe, person-centred care.
Watermead Rose Nursing and Residential Care Home, part of the Macc Care Group, achieved an outstanding 100% score following a joint Infection Prevention and Control audit carried out by Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council.
The inspection assessed the home’s compliance with best practice guidance, as detailed in the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance.
Inspectors noted that the overall standard of cleanliness at Watermead Rose was “remarkably high”, with detailed cleaning schedules in place across both the environment and equipment. They also recognised that, while maintaining carpets across a busy care home is a significant task, the home already has plans in place to manage this and replace areas with lino as part of its ongoing refurbishment work.

Inspectors also reviewed electronic care plans covering catheter care, diabetes and respiratory support for a resident with Motor Neurone Disease, finding each to be person-centred and detailed. For families, this shows that individual health needs are carefully understood and recorded, giving staff the right information to provide consistent, informed care tailored to each resident.
Jaime added: “What means a great deal is that inspectors saw this commitment in action, from staff wearing the correct uniforms with sleeves above the elbows, to the appropriate use of personal protective equipment. These may seem like small details, but they are part of the everyday routines that help protect our residents.
“I am incredibly proud that infection prevention at Watermead Rose was recognised not just as a policy, but as something understood and practised by the whole team every day.”
