A local developer has stepped in to help restore a Long Eaton landmark after submitting an application for planning permission this week.
ALB Group purchased Bridge Mills in Derby Road, Long Eaton in 2021 with a view to transforming the three-storey, former lace factory into residential development.

If planning is approved, ALB anticipates work to begin immediately with the first apartments ready for occupation within 18 months.
Prices are expected to start at around £140,000.

Arran said: “As guardians of Bridge Mill’s wonderful history, it is our intention to retain as many of the original features and as much of the integrity of the building as possible both internally and externally.”
The former lace factory, which was built in 1902 by F Perks & Son for Long Eaton Bridge Mills Co. Ltd. is understood to have been the last multi-story tenement factory to be built in England.
It stands alongside the Erewash Canal with the area to be redeveloped occupying 0.7-acre (about the size of a football pitch) and includes a 110ft-high brick chimney.
