Metrol Springs staff go the distance to raise funds for The Lewis Foundation

Staff at Northampton’s Metrol Springs Ltd pushed themselves to the limit as they took on a nine-hour endurance challenge, raising £3433 for local cancer support charity The Lewis Foundation.

The fundraising event, held at the company’s offices in Northampton, saw employees cycling on exercise bikes and rowing throughout the day in a bid to cover as many kilometres as possible, reaching an incredible 513.54 km by the end of the challenge. Two teams of staff took part in the challenge, alternating throughout the day to keep the distance climbing.

Alongside the endurance challenge, the team also hosted a homemade bake sale, as well as an auction for a signed Northampton Town Football Club 2025–2026 shirt, which all helped to smash the ambitious £3,000 fundraising target they set themselves.

The entire event was live streamed on the company’s YouTube channel, allowing supporters to follow the teams’ progress and cheer them on throughout the day.

Funds raised will support The Lewis Foundation, a charity that delivers weekly gift packs to adult cancer patients receiving treatment in hospital. The charity currently supports 17 hospitals across the Midlands and East of England, including patients at Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital, helping bring comfort and kindness to people during difficult times.

Liam Matthews, key account manager at Metrol Springs Ltd, said: “We’re all so proud to be able to support a charity that makes such a big difference locally. It was a fantastic day and a real team effort from everyone involved. Taking on a nine-hour challenge was tough, but knowing we were doing it to support such a good cause kept everyone motivated. We wanted to do something that would bring the team together while raising as much money as possible and the response from colleagues and supporters has been brilliant. We can’t wait to see how much we’ve raised.”

The fundraiser also forms part of The Lewis Foundation’s 10th anniversary year, marking a decade of supporting adult cancer patients across Northamptonshire.

Lorraine Lewis, CEO and co-founder of The Lewis Foundation, said: “Support from businesses like Metrol Springs makes a huge difference to the work we do. Every pound raised helps us continue to deliver our gift packs to adult cancer patients in hospital, giving them something to look forward to during what can often be a very isolating time and we can’t thank the Metrol Springs team enough. As we mark ten years of The Lewis Foundation, it’s wonderful to see local organisations still getting behind us and helping us reach even more patients.”
