Housebuilder, Owl Homes has partnered with a Stoke Golding primary school to uncover the next generation of interior design talent.
To celebrate the opening of its Oakwood development in the Leicestershire village, Owl Homes invited schoolchildren from St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School to take part in a special design competition.
Pupils were asked to design their dream bedroom, with the winning entries not only displayed in the development showhome but also sharing £80 of Hobbycraft vouchers to encourage continued creativity.
The winners, Joshua Hardy (11) and Brooke Bower (5), were announced at Oakwood’s launch event, where they were also tasked with cutting the ribbon to officially declare the showhome open.
“All the competition entries showed imagination and artistic flair, so it was a difficult decision selecting our winners,” explains Owl Homes’ sales manager, Grace Potts. “However Joshua and Brooke’s designs really stood out. Brooke’s embraced the colour drenching trend and was so bright and playful, while Joshua’s had a cool blue theme and he’d thought about adding different spaces for his bed, desk and bookshelf. It’s good to know the interior design sector has such upcoming talent!”
St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School’s assistant business partner, Sally Robertshaw and PTA member, Sam Faux joined Joshua, Brooke, and selected pupils at the launch. Together they toured the brand new Carlton showhome, which has been designed by Novak & Parkes and features Wicked- and castle-themed bedrooms that were popular with the children.
Sally Robertshaw said: “It’s been wonderful for our pupils to spend time at Oakwood, receive their prizes, and help start the celebrations to open Owl’s new showhome. They had a lot of fun creating their dream bedrooms and produced some really impressive designs, so thanks to the Owl team for setting such an inspiring challenge.”
The bedroom design competition marks an ongoing collaboration between Owl Homes and St Margaret’s Church of England Primary School, with the Tamworth-based housebuilder also supporting the new playground development in 2025.

Located off Wykin Lane on the village’s southern edge, Oakwood comprises 55 new homes in a range of 1-5 bedroom designs.
