Tour Lincoln Cathedral 

Lincoln is well-known for its iconic cathedral, which was regarded as the tallest building in the world during the Middle Ages. Visitors can explore the Gothic architecture of the cathedral through guided or self-tours. Be sure to look out for the Lincoln Imp during your visit, which is carved into a pillar in the Angel Choir.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also add a roof tour to your trip. These typically take place twice a day from Monday to Saturday. Please note that visitors should be comfortable with climbing steps.

Walk the castle walls

Built during the 11th century by William the Conqueror, Lincoln Castle is one of the city’s most memorable sights and is now home to Lincoln Crown Court. It has a rare layout with two mottes surrounding Lucy Tower and the Observatory Tower.

A standout attraction is the medieval wall walk, which offers views overlooking the cathedral and across Lincoln’s  skyline. Visitors can also explore the Victorian Prison and learn more about Lincoln’s historic links to the Magna Carta.

Located close to Lincoln Castle, Lincoln School of Jewellery is a relatively new addition to the Bailgate area. With bespoke classes on offer, there are options for beginners and more experienced makers to create customised rings, bracelets, necklaces and more.

Typically lasting around three hours, the classes explore how to measure, design, shape and finish items of jewellery. The school also uses high-quality materials to ensure that each item is built to last.

Visit a historic estate

There are plenty of historic estates in and around Lincolnshire for a summer day trip. Doddington Hall is an Elizabethan estate with a farm shop, cafe serving homegrown produce, gardens and grounds. It is also a popular Park Run site.

Watch an outdoor cinema screening

To make the most of longer summer evenings, there are a number of outdoor cinema screenings planned across Lincolnshire. For example, Adventure Cinema will return to Lincoln Castle with fan favourites like Dirty Dancing.

Belton Estate will also be showing films including Sense and Sensibility, and a Wicked Sing-A-Long.

For a refreshing summer activity, Lincoln Water Sports is a great option, located close to Whisby Nature Park. Open to all ages, you can test your skills across a range of obstacles and experience the UK’s biggest in-water rock climbing wall.
