Focus celebrates as Bucks County Museum opens new permanent gallery

Museum, heritage and exhibition project management specialist Focus is celebrating the opening of a new permanent display at Bucks County Museum.

Focus, with offices in London, Nottingham and Leicester, was both project manager and quantity surveyor for the transformation of the permanent gallery, supporting the museum in realising their vision and masterplan.

The Museum is situated in central Aylesbury, within a significant historic building with unique architectural features. The current permanent gallery displays a selection of natural and social history plus art, archaeological and geological objects from collections representing many centuries of Buckinghamshire life.

Selecting objects for the new Story of Bucks galleries will help to better tell the early prehistory story of the creatures that lived there to the stories of the people in the past and today.

Fresh, forward-thinking design and interpretation using innovative interactive ideas will allow the visitor to discover these stories in different ways, ultimately giving the visitor experience the extra wow factor.

As project manager, Focus supported Bucks County Museum throughout the project stages and was delighted to play its part in helping this project come to life. Due to the pandemic, Focus faced the challenges of programme delays, stricter on-site guidelines, and remote working and are glad to see the Museum unveiling the new displays at last.

Eleanor Clarke, Partner at Focus said: “It was wonderful to work with the team on this project helping to bring the stories of Buckinghamshire to life.”

Bob Sutcliffe, Curator at the museum is delighted with the end result and said: “We are delighted that we have now opened our new galleries at Bucks County Museum, the initial public reaction was splendid. We would like to very much thank Focus for the excellent way they project managed the development and I was particularly impressed by Ellie for her cool, calm approach.”
