Nottinghamshire developer encourages pupils to dig in to Children’s Gardening Week

A nursery in Newark is getting stuck into National Children’s Gardening Week (28th May to 5th June) following a green-fingered donation from Barratt Homes.

Fernwood Day Nursery, located on Barratt Homes’ Fernwood Village development, has received a donation of planting facilities, including compost and a variety of vegetable seeds perfect for beginner gardeners.

National Children’s Gardening Week is an annual festival that’s celebrated in homes, schools and community groups across the country, and supports the Greenfingers charity which is dedicated to providing magical gardens for children in hospices suffering from life-limiting illnesses.

Kelly Dowling, Nursery Manager at Fernwood Day Nursery said: “It's great for the children to get involved and hands-on with planting and gardening.

“It widens their first hand experiences and enables them to develop an understanding of growth and how to care for living things. We can't wait to tender to our crops and to enjoy harvesting the vegetables to use as part of our menu.”

The children at Fernwood Day Nursery can now look forward to watching their vegetables grow over the summer months.

Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “We hope our donation to Fernwood Day Nursery will help to encourage children to have fun while planting and enjoy watching the vegetables grow.

“It will be a great experience for the children to try some of the vegetables once they are ready, and we hope our donation will inspire children to plant their own at home.

“As a leading housebuilder, is important to us to care for the local communities in the areas in which we build.”

Five-star developer Barratt Homes is building a variety of three and four bedroom homes at its Fernwood Village development, just over three miles from the bustling town of Newark.

Among the homes available is a four bedroom Haversham style property, which is now ready to move into for the summer with a great range of incentives on offer.
