NORTHAMPTONSHIRE CHILDREN GET CREATIVE IN LOCAL AREA ARTWORK COMPETITION

To celebrate Children’s Art Week (29th June – 19th July), leading developer Barratt Homes challenged pupils of Hayfield Cross C of E Primary School in Kettering to draw or paint their local area.

Organised by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, Children’s Art Week is designed to encourage schoolchildren all over the UK to participate in creative activities and projects to really demonstrate their artistic abilities and inventive nature.

Barratt Homes, which is building new homes in Kettering at Bertone Gardens, asked pupils of the school to draw or paint something significant in their local area. This could be their own house, the road they live on, or a notable building in the area.

After receiving a number of worthy entries, Barratt Homes picked Eden (8) as the winner of the Year 3 and 4 category, and Alana (8) as the winner of the Year 5 and 6 category.

Aimee Hindwood, Year 4 Class Teacher and Creative Arts Lead at Hayfield Cross C of E Primary School, said: “It was wonderful to be asked to take part in this competition. The children had the chance to reflect on the things in their local area that were important to them and express this through a piece of art. The children really enjoyed getting outside and improving their sketching skills, and we were so proud of all of their entries.”

To reward the winning entries, Eden and Alana both received an 85-piece art set from Barratt Homes to encourage them to continue creating art.

Will Phair, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “The pupils at Hayfield Cross C of E Primary School produced some wonderful artwork and choosing our winners was difficult, but a big congratulations to Eden and Alana for their winning pieces.

“We hope our competition for Children’s Art Week inspired the pupils at the school to be creative, whilst also allowing them to think what makes their local area special.”

Bertone Gardens benefits from great commuter links and is just a short drive away from Rushden Lakes Shopping and Leisure complex which has family activities such as adventure golf, rock climbing and a Cineworld Cinema.

There is currently a range of two, three and four bedroom homes available to reserve with prices starting from £281,995.
