Derby Leisure and Events Venue is awarded the Good Business Charter

Derby Leisure and Events Venue has joined companies such as Capita and Deloitte in signing up to the Good Business Charter (GBC), an accreditation that seeks to raise the bar on business practices for employees, customers, suppliers and the environment.

The complex, on Moor Lane, which was formerly known as Rolls-Royce Leisure, has been providing leisure and recreational facilities to Rolls-Royce staff and the local community for almost 100 years.

The Good Business Charter is open to all companies, charities and public sector organisations across all industries and sectors. At a time when people care more about who they work for and who they buy from, the Good Business Charter offers a straightforward accreditation which recognises those organisations which prioritise and care for their employees, the environment, customers, and suppliers.

The Good Business Charter has been set up by a charity called the Good Business Foundation and accreditation is free for the first year. The initiative has the support of both the CBI and the TUC which both have trustee representation on its board. Other partners include the Living Wage Foundation and the Prompt Payment Code.

Commenting on the initiative, Simon Fox, chairman of the GBC board, said:

“The Good Business Charter brings together 10 standards, most of which already exist, but in separate places. We have brought them together to give a coherent overall position for businesses to aspire to.

“We believe that the GBC has enormous potential to change business practice for good.  We hope that because of its simplicity and cost effectiveness, it will quickly gain support.”

Colin Bancroft, managing director at Derby Leisure and Events Venue, added:

“In today’s climate, it has never been more important for businesses to regain trust and show they care about more than just profit.

“Here at Derby Leisure and Events Venue we pride ourselves on being inclusive, responsible business owners. We are delighted to have joined the Good Business Charter, a movement that is dedicated in raising business standards.

“This accreditation puts us in a strong position as we scale up, ensuring we continue to prioritise the needs of our colleagues and customers to give the most to our communities.”

Derby Leisure and Events Venue offers a unique combination of social, sporting and hospitality facilities. This includes dining at The Pavilion restaurant and the popular Charlie’s, which serves a variety of homecooked dishes.

It boasts three wedding and function suites, seating up to 170 guests, with a bar and a dancefloor, surrounded by 30 acres of beautifully maintained fields and enclosed gardens, along with nine conference rooms, fully equipped for meetings and conferences, training days and seminars.

It also boasts its own state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, along with a whole host of other indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, including tennis courts, 5-a-side football, and rugby pitches, which are all available to members and non-members.
