Nottingham Business Continues Long-Standing Investment in Grassroots Teams

As long-time supporters of local and community-led sports teams, Nottingham-based insurance broker Russell Scanlan will sponsor the popular pre-season hockey tournament held by Beeston Hockey Club. The tournament, which takes place on Saturday 9 – Sunday 10 September 2023, will include several top-quality UK clubs across a range of ages and abilities.

As the nation celebrates the achievements of the Lionesses, Nottingham rejoices as one of its own, goalkeeper Mary Earps, wins the Golden Glove at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. As residents across all age groups in Nottingham have been inspired by these women, the importance of corporate sponsorships for grassroots teams mustn’t be understated.

Founded in 1881, Russell Scanlan has been deep-rooted in the development of Nottingham and its surrounding areas for over 142 years. Its support for local initiatives and sports teams not only provide boosts in funds, but also create new and long-term partnerships that help build awareness for the local area and support the people in it.

Mike Dickinson, Sales & Marketing Director at Russell Scanlan, said: “Russell Scanlan has a very long history of supporting great local charities and sporting organisations and individual teams, which encourage locals to get involved with more sports and provide services that can have a real impact. Just this week we’ve seen a Nottingham native soar to the top of women’s football history, showing the impact that grassroots teams have on a community.

“Beeston’s pre-season hockey tournament is an ear-marked page in the local sporting calendar, where clubs from all over the UK come and play friendly matches before the season officially begins. As a Beeston resident myself, it’s an event we firmly support.”

David Griffiths, Chairman at Beeston Hockey Club, said: "The club is immensely proud to welcome Russell Scanlan as the headline sponsor for our Pre-season tournament this year. Hosting several of England Hockey National League's top clubs at Nottingham Hockey Centre this weekend is an incredible opportunity to showcase talent in advance of the 2023/24 season, and it wouldn't be possible without the generous support from local companies.

“We look forward to a successful tournament and are grateful to have such a distinguished and community-focused company by our side."

Beeston Hockey Club was founded in 1907 and is now the biggest hockey club in The Midlands with over 750 members across its junior and senior sections. The club has endorsed the professional careers of many British athletes since its beginnings and continues to be held in high regard by the England Hockey and Great Britain Hockey governing bodies.
