inCharnwood is the inward investment and business support brand used by the Regeneration and Economic Development Team for Charnwood. inCharnwood brings us together with businesses and a wide range of partner organisations to help create a strong economy for the Charnwood area. The Charnwood area is distinguished by a range of factors which are attractive to inward investors, additional to the ease of access afforded by being on the M1 motorway, mainline railway and the doorstep of East Midlands Airport. Whether it is modern technologies at a science park or a new business adding to the eclectic mix of shops and eateries in Loughborough town centre, the inCharnwood team is keen to provide support and work closely with investors. The local economy is well-balanced compared to many. We want to strengthen it further through continued increases in the number of business start-ups and by attracting new investment in to the borough. We are active on many fronts, including working with partners to deliver the Loughborough and Leicester Science and Innovation Enterprise Zone, the Life Sciences Enterprise Zone and delivering a new Masterplan for Loughborough town centre. Enterprise Zone status for two of our highly accessible and major sites (LUSEP and Charnwood Campus) takes us into the ‘premier league’ of locations within the UK for attracting investment. Alongside other development and regeneration opportunities this means that there is much to discover in Charnwood. Visit our stand at the East Midlands Expo and find out more.
Gainsborough is one of the 20 Housing Zones outside London designed to accelerate housing development. The town will also benefit from £18 million of public sector investment which will underpin heritage-led regeneration and housing-led economic growth. Gainsborough is predicted to see an economic growth forecast of 12% which supports a 47% increase in the number of homes in the town, ultimately increasing the population to more than 30,000. The town centre and historic river front will be revitalised and linkages to the first-class retail and food and drink offer in Marshalls Yard will be enhanced, making Gainsborough a strong investment proposition. A number of key sites have already been earmarked for housing investment. Gainsboroughs riverside will be transformed to offer retail and leisure units, boosting the economy and helping create more than 3,000 jobs. Queen Elizabeths High School offers outstanding education for 11 to 18 year olds and the University of Lincoln – on Gainsboroughs doorstep – is helping to drive the knowledge economy with its world-class teaching and research facilities. The Greater Gainsborough Housing Zone presents an exciting opportunity for UK-wide developers, which is just the beginning of the next chapter for the town.
